Summary

SARS-CoV-2 is a newly emerged coronavirus responsible for the current COVID-19 pandemic. Understanding the biology and pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 is critical to accomplish the challenging task of developing effective anti-viral treatments and vaccines.

In this webinar, we will introduce a selection of bioluminescent assays and molecular tools based on the versatile NanoLuc® Binary Technology (NanoBiT®). We will demonstrate how these assays allow for the investigation of various aspects of the SARS-CoV-2 life cycle and can be applied in the development of anti-viral drugs and vaccines.

Dr.Erik Bonke received a Diploma in biology from the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany in 2012. In his diploma thesis at the University Hospital in Mainz he worked at the genetic manipulation of murine embryonic stem cells. He did his doctoral thesis at the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main, where he focused on the mechanistic fundamentals of mitochondrial ROS generation and their physiological implication as cellular second messenger molecules, a process termed redox signaling. After completion of the experimental part of his thesis, Dr. Bonke joined Promega Germany to work as an Application Specialist with a main focus on cellular reporter technologies. As part of this position, he is giving frequent practical as well as theoretical workshops/seminars on the application of Promega's current luminescent reporter portfolio. In 2018, he was awarded a doctoral degree by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt.
